GreenFellows Organize Southlake Green Day

Southlake Green Day organized by GreenFellows is Southlake’s point of connection to learn about the many ways to be better stewards of the earth’s resources. The event featured various ways residents can invest a sustainable future, improve daily living and save money by Going Green!

Harsh north winds didn’t keep people from attending the first Southlake Green Day event on March 28.

About 1,000 people showed up for the event at Rustin Park, which included 30 exhibits featuring environmentally friendly products, said Audra Lewandoski, owner of Southlake-based ASL Design and founder of Southlake Green Day.

"In spite of the weather, I would call this event a success," Lewandoski said. "The folks who came out were enlightened on how they can become more environmentally friendly. That was our goal."

Organizers hope for an even bigger event next year, Lewandoski said. The event was sponsored by GreenFellows Inc., a consortium of local businesses that have committed to be more green. The group partnered with the Carroll school district and distributed thousands of bags to students, encouraging them to fill them with paper to recycle.

Local children responded by filling two and a half dumpsters with paper. Each bag they collected entered them for a chance to win one of six bicycles and two $250 gift cards to Southlake Town Square.

Exhibitors showcased their environmentally friendly products, including Southlakes' Blind and Shutter Guys demonstration of Hunter Douglas Green Guard Certified products and Solar film to reduce energy consumption.
